5 Industry trends from Drinktec 2025 that are reshaping packaging

Drinktec 2025, held from September 15–19 in Munich, reaffirmed its position as the global leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid food industry. With over 1,100 exhibitors, the event offered a complete view of the sector’s evolution — from processing and filling technologies to packaging, intralogistics and digital transformation.

The CSS team was there to present our latest developments, but also to listen and learn. Here are five key trends we observed — all of which are reshaping how packaging and closure systems will be designed, validated and scaled in the coming years.

1. Circularity & resource management

There’s growing pressure to improve resource efficiency: not just using less, but using better. From circular packaging concepts to responsible water usage and the integration of bio-based materials, sustainability has become a precise engineering challenge.

At CSS, we showcased tangible actions toward sustainable packaging — including the use of recycled content validated by customers, lightweight cap designs that maintain technical performance, and collaborations with material recovery partners to support circular economy goals.

2. Digitalization (Data2Value)

Concepts like Data2Value  showed how real-time data, AI tools and connected production systems are improving efficiency, quality control and decision-making. In this respect, CSS works on two different lines.

  • Integration of AI systems to optimize resources and provide faster, smarter responses to our customers, ensuring greater agility and efficiency in operations.

  • Enhanced printing surface on our compression-molded closures (which have no injection point). This feature allows our clients to integrate AI-driven tools – for example, QR codes directly printed on the closure – enabling new possibilities for traceability, consumer engagement, and smart packaging solutions.

In short, our focus on digitalization is not only about improving processes internally, but also about creating added value for our customers through innovation and technology.

3. Lifestyle, health & product personalization

As consumers become more health- and wellness-conscious, beverage companies are rethinking their product concepts. This includes using new ingredients, but also adapting packaging to reflect new habits and consumption moments.

We discussed with brands how closure design plays a role in the ergonomics (on-the-go formats), sensory experience (look & feel of the cap) and brand positioning through closure aesthetics.

4. Filling & packaging efficiency

Exhibitors displayed energy-efficient and sustainable filling solutions, lightweight packaging, and process simplifications that cut costs while improving uptime.

We presented our new GME 30.40 cap within a range of two technologies (compression and injection) to fit customer and market preferences. This is also aligned with the CETIE 26mm neck finish standard that’s gaining widespread adoption. Sustainability plays an important role for us specifically in this design. Less weight means, less plastic, less energy, less consumption during transportation, less waste. Less is more.

5. Smart intralogistics and automation

Concepts for fully automated internal logistics were shown, focusing on reducing labor costs, errors and delivery times. Our closure lines must be fully compatible with high-speed, automated capping systems. That’s why we integrate early with clients’ engineering teams to ensure flawless implementation.

Drinktec 2025 made one thing clear: this industry is advancing fast — and integration is the new norm. Sustainability must be validated. Design must work in real lines. And packaging systems must talk to digital systems.

At CSS, we’re committed to supporting our clients with solutions that meet today’s demands — and anticipate tomorrow’s.

CSS launches its new portfolio of Tethered closures in 26mm, 28mm and 38mm

Following the future European regulations, the CSS´s R&D Department has launched with great acceptance by the market its new range of tethered closures three years and half before that the regulation is in place. With their five different cuttings, consumers can retain the closure with the bottle in a very intuitive way. One of the most important added values of the new developments is that they do not involve any investment in new chucks and neither adjustments in the capper if they do not change the neck finish design, what will allow the bottlers to combine productions of tethered closures for non-returnable bottles with CSS´s standard closures for returnable bottles with no waste of money. As usual customers can request the closures in a great variety of colours, with their company top print and the “promo” codes inside the closure.

CSS implements exhaustive measures to protect their employees of get infected with COVID-19 and to guarantee supplies to its customers

On last February 2020, HR Dpt. has implemented an internal procedure to guarantee all orders will be delivered on time, planning stocks buffers and creating back ups between the factories within the region.

One of the main decisions as part of a prevention protocol, has been to create a safety bubble in the production area that is bringing satisfactory results assuring our employees to remain healthy and on-time deliveries to our customers. Also when travelling our Technical Service Representatives as well as the Sales Team, are following a strict safety procedure that lasts from the moment their leave their homes till they return.
